I captured this image of an artist painting a few short days after 9/11 near where the behemoth Twin Towers used to cast a major shadow on the surrounding streets.
I asked the artist why his was painting this image when we were surrounded by rubble, smoke and scent of death still fresh in the air. He simply said he wanted to capture the newly discovered light source where the shadows were once present.
That conversation served as a metaphor for the short lived light that did come out of the darkness. Neighbors were warmer to another and strangers actually took time acknowledge one another in in the wake of those uncertain times. In essence people recognized how fragile we really are and every day was a precious gift.
Fast forward 15 years and people are still posting NEVER FORGET, but their words aren’t congruent with their actions. There is a new form of terrorism that is tearing us apart.
This terrorism isn’t the stereotypical suicide type bombing, but far worse and wide spreading. It’s mental warfare caused by not thinking, before engaging your mouth and/or sharing ugly posts on social media.
This toxicity affects our hearts and minds. The only way to combat this is to go back to basics by being kind and respectful beings. Nothing more and nothing less.
NEVER FORGET that LOVE is the ultimate neutralizer and we all have it at our disposal. Learn to utilize this power and no negative force stands a chance. Nothing of beauty was ever created out of hate.
