Hannah started these carrots from seed well over few months ago. We placed them in the garden in July and have been caring for them ever since. I would water them daily, yank the weeds around them and patiently waited for the orange tops to pop out the soil to pick them before the rabbits got to them.
They didn’t grow as big as I expected, but have an amazing taste unlike the flavorless store bought carrots that come in a plastic bag. I never had a carrot that had a hint of ginger with a champagne finish.
Gardening isn’t as easy it looks in the photos I share. Just like most people who look like they have it made on the surface. They show off their fancy cars, worldly possessions, vacations and homes in social media for the world to see.
Assuming those people don’t live a privileged life where everything is handed down to them no one shows you the ugly side of what it took to acquire their riches. They never share the anguishing trials, errors, blood, sweat, tears and overall sweat equity invested that went into their success.
I don’t hate people who are privileged enough to have everything handed to them in life, but they are shortchanged of the experience in getting the sweet satisfaction of knowing they played a major role in harvesting the fruits of their OWN labor.
In the grand scheme of things my carrots may not be my families biggest measure of success, but they are a direct result of our hard work and I’m proud of it.
